Why Are Opinions Important?

 What are Opinions?

An Opinion is- A View or judgement formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge. I believe this is quite basic and surely all of you understand it.

Why Do Different People Have Different Opinions?

The most accepted and scientifically proven answer is because we all have different genes. If we go a little deeper these different genes give us different kinds of personalities too! I know its not a new scientific discovery but just read on....everyone in this world has a unique personality, there may be introverts, extroverts, ambiverts, leapers, lookers, planners etc. Get the idea?

People are so unique in each and every aspect that in a typical family there are about 3-4 types of personalities, if you think about it that's quite fascinating! Well, this is what makes us (Homosapiens) so special. Surely Something to think about! Plus I am sure the majority of us are proud/happy with the way we are.

What If Everyone Had The Same Opinion or Ideology?

Can you really imagine a world where everyone thought the same way, had the same opinion? Well for sure it would have been a boring boring place to live, and to be honest I can't even comprehend how the world would be functioning! Because the smallest to biggest choices in our life requires us to make a decision- going to a restaurant- pizza or pasta? coffee or tea? Going Shopping- Blue or black? Choosing a career- MBA or Engineering? Well, all these choices exist because people think differently and want different things. I can go on but I think you get the picture.

So What's Wrong With Having Different Opinions?

Well frankly there is absolutely nothing wrong in having different and diverse opinions or choices, at least that's what we tell ourselves, but is that the reality? I Think Not! In today's day and age, people like those people who have similar choices and opinions because they are easy and fun to be with and they can relate to them easily.  I do agree to this point to some extent but just because someone doesn't want to watch tech videos like me or even doesn't share the same interests as me, doesn't mean they aren't fun or nice people.

Understanding who you are, what you want, speaking up for yourself and even voicing your opinion is very very important but not to the extent where we hurt our personal and social relations with others. During early ages, people did not know the importance of voicing their opinions or truly expressing themselves, but with the advancement of technology it has become easier for everyone to share their opinions but today people have reached a stage where they have become sensitive and often get offended in such matters. Like you have your preferences and choices similarly other people have their own preferences and choices, you can debate and argue with someone but you can't force your opinions on them and you shouldn't! What if someone did that to you? Would you like that, would you change yourself because of what others think or what they want you to do?

Every story has 2 sides, maybe try to understand other person's point of view, and if even if you cannot relate to that then just respect them for who they are, treat them the same way you would like to be respected or treated. Trust me life will be easier and more jolly!

I sincerely hope you all get this message, Individualism is important but within the society that we live in. I know it's not easy and I find myself struggling with this at times but at least we can try, it is only going to help us in the long run. Let us start this new year by being more considerate, more understanding and being more respectful towards one another.
